About the Item
A most decorative pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu and Verde Indio marble ewers. Each small scale ewer is raised by a square Verde Indio marble base below a central column with an elegant mottled design. Above the lovely foliate socle pedestals are the striking reeded ewers. Beautiful winged maidens with mermaid tails sit to one side while impressive and richly chased handles lead up the sides from handsome rams heads to intertwined snakes. The slender bodies lead up to elegant lightly curved spouts. Lovely subject matter and all original gilt throughout.
