About the Item

A fine and high quality pair of French late 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu and green marble urns, signed Susse Freres, Paris. Each stunning urn is raised by an Ormolu socle with a Coeur-de-Rai band around the base and acanthus leaves draped over its top while being supported below on a square mottled edge base with concave corners and an Ormolu plate. Wrapped around the base of the body of the urn is a detailed Ormolu band of acanthus leaves. Centrally placed on the marble body are Ormolu reserves of a male and female figure in a battle helmets with swirling designs. The profiles are surrounded by berried laurel vines and a flowing bowed ribbon atop. On either side are interlocking Ormolu vines of acanthus leaves, serving as handles. The handles flank the neck of the urn which is decorated with a thick band of slender palmettes. The mottled edged marble top of the urn is paired with a finely detailed foliate Ormolu band and an acorn top finial.
