Pair of French Mid-19th Century Louis XVI Style Marble and Ormolu Lidded Urns
About the Item
A most impressive and large scale pair of French mid 19th century Louis XVI st. Brèche Violette marble and ormolu lidded urns. Each urn is raised by a thick square mottled base with a fine bottom ormolu fillet. The socle pedestals display a elegant and most decorative wrap around berried laurel band. The urn is flanked by two richly chased rams heads with intertwined serpents in their horns as handles. The front and back of the urns have swaging foliate garlands with a central rosette. Above is the fitted lid topped by an acorn finial. Wonderful overall proportions and original gilding throughout.
