ABOUT RAAQUU :
Almost 15 years ago, Adil was enamored with Raku pottery while undergoing a ceramics training program in Japan. He made a daring step to hone his expertise in all things Raku and the result of that decision led to the birth of RAAQUU.
Raku ceramics are special because of the unpredictability of the raku firing technique. Raku firing is done in an extremely hot kiln and then removed while the ceramic piece is still red-hot or molten. Immediately after coming out of the kiln, the ceramic piece is then placed in a reduction chamber – usually a simple metal bin or container – filled with sawdust or paper. The extreme heat from the ceramic piece then ignites the combustible material in the reduction chamber, which is then sealed for a while. What happens inside the reduction chamber next is the key to the unique and unpredictable colors and patterns of each raku ceramic piece.
Adil’s Raku pieces comes in 6 different types of finishes: full-copper matte, half-copper matte, smoked (or ‘naked’), carbon copper, tape resist and obvara (a slightly varied technique of firing).
At RAAQUU, each ceramic piece cannot be reproduced. This makes each piece a unique, one-of-a-kind work of art with its own story to tell.

RAAQUU is a ceramic art brand founded in 2020 from Malaysia. Manifested from the inspired mind of ceramic artist Adil Abdul Ghani, RAAQUU intends to make the magical world of Raku ceramics more accessible to ceramic art lovers all over the world. Almost 15 years ago, Adil was enamored with Raku pottery while undergoing a ceramics training program in Japan. He made a daring step to hone his expertise in all things Raku and the result of that decision led to the birth of RAAQUU. What happens inside the reduction chamber next is the key to the unique and unpredictable colors and patterns of each raku ceramic piece. Adil’s Raku pieces comes in 5 different types of finishes: copper matte, half-copper matte, carbon-half copper matte, smoked raku, and Obvara (a slightly varied technique of firing). At RAAQUU, each ceramic piece cannot be reproduced. This makes each piece a unique, one-of-a-kind work of art with its own story to tell.

Ceramic Vase with Bespoken Glaze by Makoto Yabe
By Makoto Yabe
Located in Atlanta, GA
Made by Japanese ceramic artist Makoto Yabe (1947-2005), this stoneware vase features a globular body supported by a round pedestal foot. A similarly shaped neck extends to a rimmed mouth opening. Robust in form with thick wall, the vase is noted for its irregular cloved form. The surface is covered in a beige-yellow glaze, on top of which, dark brown strokes and thick white feldspar slip were artistically applied in a splashed and washed pattern. Together with some random shallow incision lines, they form an abstract painting with textured surface where some slip forms small droplets at the end of the stroke. The work was created in traditional Japanese manner and reflects the beauty of Wabi Sabi, a Zen aesthetic for the imperfect perfection.
The base was incised with the artist's cipher.
"Makoto Yabe's work beautifully exemplifies the transmission of Japanese ceramics to the West. Born in Fukushima, Japan, Yabe began studying ceramics in Kyoto at the age of nine. He completed his training at the age of 24, with a four-year apprenticeship under Jinmatsu Uno and Sango Uno. Yabe then came to Boston, where he was an integral member of the local ceramic community, yet he maintained his Japanese roots. As an instructor of ceramics, Yabe worked in the Boston area at numerous schools and universities, touching the lives of all his students and expanding their knowledge and appreciation of studio ceramics."
