A 19th C. KPM Porcelain Weichmalerei Flower Decorated Double Snake Handle Vase

About the Item

A Marvelous 19th Century KPM Porcelain Weichmalerei Flower Decorated Double Snake Handle Vase with Butterfly Decoration and Putti. The vase features an amphora form with an octagonal stepped base adorned with raised 24k gold decorations that are matted and burnished. The vase is adorned with soft pink banded decorations on the top and base, providing a gentle contrast to the rich gilding. The highlight of this vase is the exquisite hand-enameled decorations in Weichmalerei manner. The main panel depicts an arry of flowers painted with the Weichmalerei technique. The hand-enameled flowers entail a vast quantity of colors in a soft pallet. Each petal displays an incredible amount of detail that brings this vase to life. These flowers flow gently around the vase, and encapsulate the putto, a cherub-like figure, which is depicted reclining amongst the floral motif. This Weichmalerei (soft-paste) decoration is exceptionally rare and highly sought-after for all KPM collectors and porcelain enthusiasts that enjoy floral motifs of the highest quality. The reverse panel features a serene scene of butterflies fluttering amidst the same Weichmalerei floral design. These intricate, hand-painted decorations are exceptionally rare in addition to being incredibly well done. This style of decoration is incredibly rare due to the difficulty and precision required to paint flowers of this quality. To achieve the lifelike feel of both the Weichmalerei floral design and the butterflies fluttering about, the artist at KPM not only spent weeks or months on this vase, but a lifetime honing their craft in preparation for this vase. The vase's double-scrolling snake-handles are wrapped in acanthus leaves and adorned with matted and burnished 24k gilding. Underneath the base are KPM Scepter mark in underglaze blue, as well as orange globe mark, and underglaze blue round mark representative of the year the vase was produced at KPM (1847 and 1849). Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur (KPM), also known as the Royal Porcelain Manufactory, is one of Germany's most prestigious porcelain manufacturers, with a legacy dating back to 1763 when it was established by Frederick the Great of Prussia. Known for its meticulous craftsmanship and innovative designs, KPM quickly became synonymous with quality and luxury. Each piece produced by KPM is handmade and hand-painted, a testament to the skill and dedication of its artisans who continue to employ traditional techniques alongside modern advancements. The company is especially renowned for its intricate Weichmalerei (soft-paste) decorations and refined gilding, often seen in exquisite details such as floral motifs, delicate figurines, and opulent gold accents. Today, KPM porcelain pieces are highly collectible and appreciated worldwide for their artistic and historical value, embodying the elegance and sophistication of European porcelain artistry. Germany, Circa: 1847
