Alfredo Barbini Signed Bi-Color Murano Glass Vase 1970s

About the Item

A striking example of Murano artistry, this signed Alfredo Barbini vase from the 1970s captures the refined elegance and technical brilliance that defines the best of mid-century Italian glass design. Hand-blown in Murano, Italy, the vase features a sophisticated bi-color gradient, shifting seamlessly from transparent citrine yellow to cool aquatic blue, creating a luminous presence that transforms with the light. Barbini’s mastery is evident in the smooth, organic form and the clarity of the glass, which reflects his deep understanding of balance, proportion, and color layering. The result is a piece that feels both timeless and distinctly modern—an ideal complement to minimalist, contemporary, or eclectic interiors. This vase is signed on the base, further affirming its authenticity and value as a collectible work by one of Murano’s most revered glassmakers. It remains in good vintage condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use. A rare opportunity to acquire a genuine Barbini piece that embodies both aesthetic refinement and collectible significance.

Italian Murano Glass Vase by Alfredo Barbini
By Alfredo Barbini
Located in Milan, Italy
Murano glass vase designed and produced by Alfredo Barbini in 1970. With original labels. Biography Alfredo Barbini (1912-2007) one of the greatest Murano glass artists of the 20th century. He learned the traditional techniques of glass blowing during his adolescence as an apprentice at the Franchetti Crystals and at SAIAR Ferro Toso. He then worked in the Zecchin-Martinuzzi Furnace alongside the sculptor Napoleone Martinuzzi, the collaboration lasted from 1932-1936 creating the first solid glass sculptures designed by Martinuzzi, this experience will be fundamental for his artistic training. After the closure of the factory, he became a first-rate teacher at the V.A.M.S.A. (Murano Artistic Glass Company, Anonymous Society). Here, too, his contribution in the field of glass sculpture is remarkable, and in that of thick materials, with particular chromatic effects, such as the so-called “smoked glass”. He carries out works based on drawings by the painter Luigi Scarpa Croce...
