Ancient "Kendi" Vessels
About the Item
Found in the South China Sea.
Locally called "Kendi" from the Sanskrit word for this type of spouted vessel, "Kendika." This was a sacred family heirloom. The water from its spout washed the hands and feet of the bride and groom before the wedding ceremony. The vessels, usually a pair, were then put in a secret place in the house as protective talismans.
