About the Item
Superb high fired Cobridge trial art pottery Baluster vase designed by Andrew Hull and dated 2004. The heavily made stoneware vase is of baluster shape with a skirted lower body and narrow rounded foot and with a narrow raised neck and top. The body of the vase is high fired and decorated in layered dripped blue, brown and grey glazes over brushed blue and brown glazes with small spots of red. The vase has impressed marks to the base along with painted initials AH for Andrew Hull and is dated 2004 and marked TRIAL.
A unique piece from this short lived and innovative pottery which produced pottery between 1998 and August 2005, when it closed. The pottery was born out of a desire of the owner of Moorcroft, Hugh Edwards, to develop the ideas of William Howson Taylor, the man who founded and ran Ruskin Pottery. He was renowned for his secret glaze formulae which Edwards tried to recreate.

George E. Ohr Signed Biloxi Mississippi Art Pottery Glazed Ceramic Baluster Vase
By George Ohr
Located in Studio City, CA
A wonderfully designed and beautifully glazed vase by renowned American / Mississippian master potter George E. Ohr. ( or as he famously referred to himself as the "Mad Potter of Biloxi") The work features a gorgeous mottled green spinach high glaze with a myriad of colors and tones including browns, tans, and yellows. Very striking.
George Ohr (July 12, 1857 – April 7, 1918) is widely considered to be America's first art potter. Many art historians believe Ohr was a precursor to the American Abstract-Expressionism movement due to his innovative experimentation with modern clay forms.
Ohr's works are featured in many prominent collections and museums both domestically and abroad. From 2007 to 2010 Ohr Rising: The Emergence of an American Master, a major national exhibition of Ohr pottery...
