About the Item
Cobalt blue glass vase was designed and hand blown by Ann Concoran for Nourot Glass studio. The vase is decorated with multicolor, abstract fused glass design on the front and back of the vase. It is signed and dated in etching at the base by the artist.
Nourot Art Glass Studio was founded in 1974 by husband and wife Micheal Nourot and Ann Corcoran. The artists met at California College of Arts and Crafts (CCAC) in 1973. The first studio, Micheal's Light Opera, was founded in San Francisco in 1972, and in 1974 Micheal and Ann moved the studio to Benicia, California, and renamed it Nourot glass studio. In 1987, for Pope John Paul II's visit to San Francisco, Nourot Glass created many pieces for the Mass held at Candle Stick Park, including communion dishes and paperweights. Other high-profile commissions included Presidents Reagan and Clinton, George Lucas, Bechtel, Lockheed, Clorox, among others; the Nourot's work was displayed in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC.

Roman is using practical function as a common denominator to create emotionally charged art objects, blurring the boundary between art and function. While appreciating possibilities of ordinary materials, Roman is developing new mixed media multilayered composite varnishes and utilizes decorative gilding and mica veneer to actively engage ambient light, giving an additional aspect to relation of his objects to their environment. The decision to work in custom format was based on environmental concerns and opposition to culture of mass production and pure consumerism. The choice of materials was heavily influenced by sustainability and environmental concerns. All objects are made locally in the Brooklyn Navy Yard workshop. Vitrix Hot Glass Studio Cobalt and Gold Bud Vase, NY Art Glass
By Thomas Buechner III
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Sculptural Organic Modern vase was hand blown with thin layer of gold foil fused over cobalt blue glass. The abstract, graphic pattern is swirling around the curves of the vase; the whole structure is enclosed in thin layer of clear glass in sommerso technique, adding depth and definition to the piece. Minimal shape of the vase allows the bold flow of the pattern to take the center stage.
The vase is signed and dated in etching on the bottom; rare, hard to find example of vintage Vitrix glasswork would make a great gift to any studio glass or art collector.
