About the Item

Arkadiusz Szwed Bumps 2.0 Vase by Nów Designed by Arkadiusz Szwed Dimensions: D 16 x W 16 x H 20 cm Materials: glazed porcelain, cobalt BUMPS 2.0 is a set of ceramic objects that were created as a result of an experiment with a new, personal technique of porcelain casting. As part of the process, plastic balls are pushed under an elastic fabric, which is pulled over a plaster model, allowing the balls to be moved around freely - this intervention randomly shapes the form. This technique allows the formation of molds using a method similar to that provided by 3D printing tools, however fully analog. In his work, Arkadiusz Szwed tries to look for his own way, breaking existing patterns and schemes, introducing an element of fun and surprise to the entire design process, as a result of which he obtains very lively, irregular structures. A ceramic vessel, which is supposed to be functional, becomes a non-obvious object, a complement to the interior, intriguing with its shape, stimulating the imagination of the recipient. Artist, designer, professor. He represents a generation of ceramists who believe that the technological process should be intentionally and deliberately disturbed by the designer in order to obtain a form that shows the relationship between the process and piece of work. Szwed is involved in applied design and conceptual design, as well as education in the field of industrial design. His works are a collage of technical knowledge, sensitivity and creativity. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Painting at the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce and Design Management at the Da Vinci Collegium in Poznan. For many years, he was a close assistant of Marek Cecula - educated under his watchful eye and gaining knowledge by witnessing the works of Modus Design, as well as accompanying him during the creation of Design Centrum Kielce and Cmielow Design Studio. At School of Form of SWPS University in Warsaw, he runs his own ceramics studio and is a professor in the domestic design department; Art Director of the Glitch Lab collective. His works have been shown at prestigious design festivals and exhibitions in Poland and abroad, including Designblok, London Design Festival, V&A Museum, Gdynia Design Days, Museum Europaischer Kulturen, and others. Nów: We are artisans and promoters of handcrafted production. We come from different parts of Poland, we have different professional experiences. We draw from tradition, although we do not strictly adhere to artisanal rules. We choose the freedom to experiment - with form, material, and the production process. We spread knowledge about contemporary Polish crafts in the country and abroad. We represent the interests of craftsmen in contacts with public institutions and business. Together, we create the New Moon Association. New Craft - an organization of modern craftsmen. Originators of the New Moon Association. New Craft are Olga Milczynska and Malgorzata Herman from Projekt Pracownie.

L Vase Designed by Virginia Frieyro for The Table Project, Spain, 2024
Located in Madrid, ES
This unique piece is part of The Table Project, a collaborative initiative developed in Spain in 2024. Originally designed by Isidro Blasco, the work has been reinterpreted by Virginia Frieyro, a visual artist whose practice lies at the intersection of expanded painting, installation, and spatial intervention. Her work stems from a formal investigation of color and gesture, often connected to architecture and bodily movement. In this intervention, Frieyro transforms the surface of the vase into an immersive pictorial support, applying glazes, stains, and chromatic gestures in a vibrant palette of pinks, blues, greens, and purples. The rhythmic and gestural composition resembles an abstract cartography, where color is layered and interwoven to create a sense of depth and motion. The result is a piece that transcends functionality, existing somewhere between sculpture and three-dimensional painting. About Virginia Frieyro Virginia Frieyro explores abstraction, color, and repetition, weaving vibrant compositions across surfaces. In her ceramic works, color becomes a kind of fabric or structure, inviting an emotional experience. She seeks to connect with the most intimate and sensitive aspects of perception—believing that it is in that precise moment where art truly happens. About The Table Project The Table Project is an initiative by artist Isidro Blasco. From his studio in the Carabanchel neighborhood of Madrid, a series of projects have been developed with the goal of creating distinctive artistic objects and fostering collaboration among local artists. Since 2019, The Table Project has promoted creative encounters grounded in Spain’s rich artisanal traditions, reimagined through a contemporary lens. The initiative has become a space where multidisciplinary artists come together to produce handcrafted works within the context of contemporary art. Launched by Blasco...
