Art Deco Period Swedish Grace Silver Glazed Stoneware Vase
About the Item
This beautiful Swedish Grace, Art Deco, Period Vase was designed by Einar Luterkort for Upsala Ekeby circa 1930. Decorated in a silver over green glaze, the vase has a flared trumpet form neck, and is molded with tassel form handles to the rounded body. The base is stamped Ekeby 112.
Upsala-Ekeby was founded in 1886, and in the early 20th century transformed itself from a manufacturer of bricks and tiles into a purveyor of well designed and potted art ceramics and household wares. In addition to employing talented designers and sculptors like Einar Luterkort, Upsala Ekeby further expanded its offerings by acquiring a wide range of companies whose products would complement their existing lines, and enhance their access to new materials being used in 20th century production. Of their many acquisitions some of the most notable were the Rörstrand porcelain manufacturer, and Kosta Boda Glassworks, both of which would go on to merge with other companies in the 1980s when Upsala-Ekeby eventually shuttered production.
