About the Item

Art Nouveau emerald green art glass vase with gilt and white enamel decoration depicting stylized Lilly of the Valley, elaborately scrolled leaves and golden scales Early 20th Century The top and neck richly decorated with golden scales, each highlighted with white enamel, surrounded by attractive, elongated Lilly of the Valley leaves and three bouquets of Lilly of the Valley flowers, all against a striking emerald green art glass background. Lilly of the Valley is a fragrant woodland flower synonymous with happiness, good luck and sweetness of the spirit. It is a romantic choice for weddings and has its own day of celebration in France, the 1st of May, La fete du Muguet. On this day, it is tradional to give small bouquets of the flower to loved ones for good luck in the coming year. King Charles IX began this custom back in the Renaissance era when he presented Lillies of the Valley to the ladies of his court as a gesture of his affection and as a good luck charm. The scale of this beautiful vase is ideal for a Lilly of the Valley bouquet. Height: 4.25 inches Diameter: 4.5 inches Condition: Very Good
