About the Item

Handsome Art Nouveau Flemish earthenware three handled vase with applied L.M.V mark and decorated with figures in landscape. It is in good vintage condition. One handle has been restored and there are several glaze flakes and small chips; however, it still presents very nicely. It is priced accordingly. Please see photos, circa 1890s-1910s. I fell in love with this pot immediately so snatched it up quickly. Then fell in love further after learning about its rich Flemish history. This three-handled Art Nouveau jug style vase is decorated with interesting figures and landscapes in the most beautiful blue, yellow, green, and brown polychrome glaze. It is signed by the artist, Leo Maes Vereenooghe, with his initials LMV applied on the side of the piece under its glaze as is standard. Not a lot of information on the artist’s life and background is available but he is known to have worked from around 1891-1909 at the renowned pottery workshop Maes in Torhout, Belgium. Potters, many of them famous, have worked in Torhout since the 18th century. These potters created a type of pottery, which features an applique folk-art style which reached its peak in the Art Nouveau period, that spread to the rest of Flanders and subsequently into Britain and North America. This earthenware vase is a large and beautiful example of that Flemish pottery. You must make it yours. Measures: Vase: ? Height 13 inches ? Width 12 inches ? Depth 12 inches ? Weight 12.3 pounds Boxed size: ? Height 18 inches ? Width 16 inches ? Depth 16 inches ? Weight 17 pounds.
