As an accomplished painter and designer, Wallander excelled in creating decorative arts that embraced the fluidity and organic motifs characteristic of the Art Nouveau movement. Wallander began his artistic career with pastel painting, but under the influence of the English Arts and Crafts movement, he turned to making furniture and textiles for the leading Swedish arts and crafts and furnishing company, and producing ceramic items for Rörstrands Porcelain Factory, which were also exhibited at the major world exhibitions, such as in Paris in 1900. Located in Chicago, US
