Art Nouveau vase by Auguste Moreau

About the Item

This tall vase of baluster form is made of silver-plated pewter and it is the embodiment of the charm, allure, and sophistication of the French Art Nouveau style. The vase is made and signed by Auguste Moreau (1834–1917), a French sculptor from a renowned artistic family. From his debut at the Paris Salon in 1861 until the end of his life, Moreau enjoyed great success with his bronze sculptures and a variety of decorative objects. The vase represents a harmonious blend of sculpture and functional design. A sensual and refined female figure, the ultimate symbol of beauty, embraces the vase’s elegant, gently rounded, and elongated form. A vine branch with grape clusters spirals around the vase, while the entire surface is adorned with lively botanical motifs.
