About the Item

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Fascinating French vase made with the technique of "incamiciatura," typical of the island of Murano(VE); this technique consists of superimposing, as a first process, on the glass mass coming out of the furnace, one or more successive layers of glass of different colors; in our object to the white glass mass, only the black color was superimposed by immersing the white form just sketched in a crucible containing black molten glass. Then the Master glassmaker put the whole thing back in the furnace for a few minutes and then blew into the special barrel, helping himself with pliers and working it by hand he gave the vase the desired shape, this operation was carried out with great skill, so that the two colors blended perfectly. After the vase was allowed to cool, the craftsman, using a stone grinder, executed the circular decorations by hand, uncovering the white glass underneath, thus giving rise to a refined and pleasing contrast; the Master then applied a precious pure gold varnish to the central part of the vase. The object was thus made entirely by hand and without the use of molds or models, thus creating a unique piece, just like a work of art. The vase was made between 1997 and 1999 in France in a craft workshop in the medieval village of Biot. This small town located in the Côte d'Azur region since the 1950s has become the French capital of glassblowing, thanks to the ceramic engineer Eloi Monod; since then a whole generation of talented glassmakers, trained by Eloi and Luce Monod, brought back in vogue, the magical art of fire in the artisan stores and workshops that spring up numerous in Biot, giving the village an international notoriety. In 1997, Biot was awarded the "Villes et Métiers d'Art" label for glassmaking, which represents both its cultural identity and tradition. In order to enhance their potential in the artistic crafts, the towns of Biot, Le Cannet, Vallauris, and Cagnes-sur-Mer have worked together to form an association of the "Villes et Métiers d'Art" network and develop joint actions to promote their products, both in glass and ceramics. The vase is in good condition. What may appear to be small defects inside or outside the glass (bubbles, lumps, streaks, etc.) are instead evidence of craftsmanship and not the result of modern molding operations. Measures cm.24 diameter, cm.35 height. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (custom-made wooden crates, Styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
