About the Item

Biot pottery A unique hand blow jar or vase by Michele Luzoro, known as the "Diva of Biot" having radiated on the international glass landscape for more than thirty years. This beautiful and generously sized vase or jar with handle is blown with gold inclusion pallets with multiple layers of art glass. Signed by the artist. This wonderful piece of art will enhance any space in your home. Michèle Luzoro (1949), master glassmaker in Biot, France from the Novaro School, married to Jean-Claude Novaro. Jean-Claude Novaro was a French artist considered one of the greatest glass makers of the 20th century. Novaro’s lamps, bottles, and vases utilized Art Deco-inspired shapes to create swirling, colorful forms. He pioneered techniques which included adding and layering unique materials directly into molten glass, such as metal oxides, precious stones, and luminescent powders which glow in the dark. In recognition of his ambition with his medium, Novaro is included in the Guinness Book of World Records as the maker of the largest hand-blown glass work ever created. Born on October 18, 1943 in Antibes, France, he began studying glassmaking at age 14 under Eloi Monod in Biot before founding his own studio there in 1977. The artist died on December 30, 2014 in Monaco at the age of 72. In 1977, with his wife Michèle Luzoro, he founded his own studio in Biot in which he leads from the front production and research. Their mastery of the glass addresses several techniques simultaneously: work at home plate and the tool, metallization by reduction, hot applications or additions metals, metal oxides, gold leaf, silver, etc. Michele Luzoro mastered the art of glass making just as her husband had accomplished. Makes a wonderful gift. Measures: Diameter 6.63 in. x Height 9.63 in.
