About the Item
A very fine example of this charming midcentury Rosenthal Studio-Linie porcelain vase from the Samuramat series by renowned Danish born artist Bjorn Wiinblad (1918-2006). The stylish porcelain vase is of simple tall cylindrical shape raised on a round unglazed foot rim with slightly recessed base. Samuramat was an Empress Regent of Assyria between 811 and 808 BC and was one of the first known woman to rule an Empire. This vase is decorated with a stylised seated figure of the empress sitting back to back, probably her sister with both surrounded by flowers and each holding a bird perched on their hands. The vase is decorated in grey with gilded highlights and incorporates a facsimile signature within the lower right of the design and with Rosenthal green printed makers marks to the base.
Provenance: Acquired from the British Art Market.
The vase is offered in good condition with light wear associated with age and use. From a collection of Bjorn Wiinblad related items.
