Bjørn Wiinblad Rosenthal Studio-Linie Boxed Solitaire Game

About the Item

A stylish vintage German Rosenthal Studio-Linie original boxed ‘Keramik-Solitärspiel’ (Solitaire Game) by renowned Danish painter, designer and artist Bjørn Wiinblad (Danish, 1918-2006) and dating from around 1979. Bjorn Wiinblad was born in Copenhagen and studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and was attached to the US Embassy in Paris in 1947 as a poster designer. He took on various commissions and later joined renowned German porcelain makers Rosenthal as a designer. Wiinblad had also built-up relationships with the USA and was named Man of the Year in New York in 1985 and was awarded the American-Scandinavian Foundation’s Cultural Prize of 1995. The solitaire game comprises of a round ceramic game board with an impressed patterned rim and glazed in a combination of green, brown and blue glazes with a glazed base. With 37 round hollowed out gaming piece slots to the surface and accompanied with 36 original round wooden gaming counters the game is presented in its original fitted cardboard box. The ceramic board has printed makers marks to the base. Provenance: acquired in the British art market. In good condition.
