Cast Iron, Stainless Steel & Glass Conceptual Bell Jar Tabletop Sculpture

About the Item
Nel Verbeke is a Brussels-based concept designer dedicated to the emotional potential of shape and space. This vocation has led her to explore what she refers to as 'The Architecture of Time,' and to create settings and circumstances that foster profound contemplation and introspection.
For her piece entitled 'Two Alcoves Joining' (Grey Iron Edition i.c.w. Emma Scully), she reinterpreted the historical and transcultural notion of the alcove as a place for spiritual retreat, arriving at two freestanding niches united by a metal band. The concise but sculptural volume, which functions both as a vase and as a bell jar, depending on how you position it, interrupts the usual dynamics in a room and installs an evocative focal point – a mental refuge that absorbs and quiets our gaze and thoughts.
In this, the transparency of the glass and the distinctive surface and tone of the sand-cast metal each play their own role, either hiding or revealing what is preserved in between them. A striking example of contemporary collectible-design, this object is a curiosity that will spark conversation and serve as a brilliant focal point atop a mantel or tableau.
This piece was originally commissioned for a 2021 exhibition entitled 'Cast Iron', in which eight artists from around the world were tasked with digitally designing exclusive editions of furniture, lighting or functional decorative objects, which the gallery would then facilitate production of, with the help of a fourth generation foundry in Virginia. Each of the digital pieces would be materialized in cast iron, the quintessential symbol of the 19th century. The focus of the exhibition was to marry the material’s origins with the new-age digital hyper-connectivity of design ideas.

- Hand-built Supersized Ceramic Cup & Saucer Sculpture by Brooklyn Artist Jaye KimBy Jaye KimLocated in New York, NYHand-Built Glazed Ceramic Sculpture, entitled 'Cup & Saucer' by Brooklyn-based artist and ceramicist Jaye Kim. This generously oversized cup and saucer is scaled up for maximum impact, and glazed in a glossy mix of exuberant teal and vibrant royal blue that emphasizes the drippy textured surface with a subtle sheen that catches the light. This work is in two separate pieces, the cup, which sits atop the saucer. The cup can function as a vessel for an enormous bunch of flowers, a cachepot for a plant, or stand alone as a decorative object. With its monumental proportions, this piece brings a mega-size sense of whimsy and cheekiness to any setting. Jaye Kim is a Korean-American artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Her ceramic work is an exploration of her interior world regarding the symbolism and rituals of motherhood. Depicting the mundane objects Kim interacts with daily in ginormous scale, from cups and saucers to skin care face masks and cabbages, the ordinary is transformed into the interpersonal. In her oversized hand built vessels, surface details derived from her coiling and pinching emerge to tell a story about our everyday domestic objects, highlighted by delicate lustres and stunning, saturated glaze work. Jaye Kim is a graduated of the School of Visual Arts, where she studied animation. Her work has been shown at Egg Collective...Category
