Chinese Lobed Pantry Vessel, c. 1900
About the Item
Charged with the humble task of storing dry goods, this small earthenware jar is hand-shaped with balanced proportions and a beautifully irregular unglazed surface. The round jar has a gently tapered form with a narrowed neck and high shoulders topped with two small strap handles. Left undecorated, the jar has a quiet beauty, patterned only by firing imperfections and the brushed texture of its slip clay finish.
