Chinese Porcelain Vase, Small, Double Gourd Sang de Boeuf Oxblood c.1960s China

About the Item

A small Chinese double-gourd vase, handcrafted in China, circa 1960s. Finished in a rich oxblood red glaze, known as sang de boeuf, this piece embodies both Chinese tradition and artistry. The double-gourd shape, long associated with longevity, protection, and prosperity, is a recurring motif in Chinese ceramics, often linked to Daoist symbolism. The striking sang de boeuf glaze, developed during the Kangxi period (1662–1722), was highly prized for its deep crimson hue—symbolizing good fortune, joy, and imperial prestige. Achieved through a complex copper-based firing technique, it remains one of the most celebrated finishes in Chinese porcelain. Measuring 7 cm in diameter and 12.5 cm tall, this vase is in very good condition for its age and use. The base bears a blue-stamped apocryphal reign mark, paying homage to historical Chinese craftsmanship.
