About the Item

This earthenware vessel from China's Yunnan province is distinguished by its rustic drip glaze and allover stamped pattern. Originally used for storing rice wine or other liquids, the vase has a dramatically tapered form, with bulbous shoulders that narrow towards the base and neck. The surface is textured with subtle ridges from its coil construction and a graphic design of raised circular medallions, each enclosing the character wáng (王), likely identifying the maker. A dark brown-black glaze sheets across the surface, lingering on each element for an irregular, wabi-sabi appearance. Additional Dimensions: Diameter of Opening: 3.5" Diameter of Base: 4.75"
