Technique, Christina Muff’s forms are modelled by hand using ancient techniques; hand-modelling, coil- and mould-building. Starting with smooth slabs of clay she slowly shapes the intricate sculptures by hand, a time-consuming task as the forms require significant drying time in the process as the sculptures are most often large and detailed. When glazing Christina Muff employs various combinations of glazing techniques including brushing, dipping, pouring and many forms are fired numerous times to achieve the desired surface and color. The objective is to achieve texture and surface that resembles man-made items that nature has reclaimed.
Bio, Christina Muff, contemporary ceramicist (b. 1971) studied design in Copenhagen at Margretheskolen in the 1990s and later at TEKO center in Herning, Denmark. She has worked in various media including painting, textiles, graphics and silver. Having had commercial successes in the fields of graphic art and jewelry, Christina now recognizes clay as her primary medium. Always self-employed Christina has lived in the US, Saudi Arabia and Europe, today residing in her native country of Denmark where her ceramic studio is located in the outskirts of Copenhagen.
