About the Item

This rare French Art Deco vase, by Claudius Linossier was created using the complex technique known as dinanderie, which involved decorating hand-raised copper vessels to produce subtle but beautiful gradations of color. This spherical vase with an open neck on a small annular heel in entirely hammered copper brassware with an upper collared border of mottled brown patina on a rust ground. The collared decoration is further accented with a serpentine frieze on a burnt umber ground. Product Details: Item #: B-20505 Artist: Claude Linossier Country: France Circa: 1930 Dimensions: 4.5" height Materials: Copper, Brass Signed: "Linossier" Macklowe Gallery Curator's Notes: Claudius Linossier became an apprentice metal worker in his birthplace of Lyon when he was quite young, soon moving to Paris to continue his work as a silversmith, joining Jean Dunand for three months to study his techniques. Linossier did not stay working with silver for very long, however, as it was quite costly at the time, and he instead devoted himself exclusively to dinanderie. His pieces can be found in many museums and private collections.
