About the Item

This copper, brass, and silver French Art Deco vase by Claudius Linossier utilizes the dinanderie technique. Using dinanderie, the artist hand-hammers thin sheets of alternating metals to produce subtle gradations of color. The dinanderie technique is utilized in three separate areas of the vase. The first is in the ground of the red and deep brown vessel. The next is the marble effect around the mouth of the vase. The thirst aspect is the stunning deep brown triangular and spiral design bands over the intense red background at the vessel’s neck. Product Details: Item #: B-21142 Artist: Claudius Linossier Country: France Circa: 1926 Dimensions: 13.375" high x 6.75" diameter Materials: Copper, Brass, Silver Signed: CL-Linossier 1926 Macklowe Gallery Curator's Notes: Claudius Linossier was a prodigy of a silversmith who moved to Paris to study enameling at the studio Cardeilhac when silver became too costly a trade. While in the city, his frequent visits to the Louvre inspired the vessels he created, modeled after the ancient Greek examples he admired. This vessel is an excellent replica of an amphora made modern by removing the vessel’s characteristic handles.
