Conscience Olive Oil Jug

About the Item

Conscience olive oil jug, France mid-century. 19-century French conscience jug with bright yellow glaze. Small drinking/pouring opening with four handles. Originally used to carry oil or water and the handles were done in such manner so they could be used for conveniently threading rope for transportation purposes. These jugs were specifically intended to help the less fortunate, priests would carry these jugs and ask for donations of olive oil and would bless the donor’s conscience. Wear consistent with age.
