Enric Miralles Spanish 'Gerro' Vase, circa 1970

About the Item

Gerro is a small vase that reproduces the large ones built in the Diagonal Mar Park in Barcelona, a project by Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue. Made in glazed porcelain with silk-screened image of ceramic pigments. In good original condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. About the designer: He studied architecture at the School of Architecture of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, and later attended Columbia University in New York (USA). He began his professional career in the studio of Albert Viaplana, where he remained until 1983. At the same time he was an adjunct professor at the two universities where he had studied. His work as an architect went through three periods: (1983-1990) In the first, he worked together with his first wife, Carme Pinós. From this period, the project for the Igualada cemetery stands out. (1990-1994) He worked alone in this period. He worked with Benedetta Tagliabue, his second wife, and his studio was renamed EMBT. The last two years of his life were intensively dedicated to his most important project, the Scottish Parliament Building. It is a work that fully expresses Miralles' style, respectful of the forms and traditions of the place, while at the same time endowing the building with volumes and elements that create a visual tension that changes according to the angle of observation, and the light and shadows at different times of the day.
