Etruscan Impasto Vessel 'Mid-7th Century BC'

About

A dark brown impasto olla with globular body on high trumpet foot; on opposite sides of the body, large vertical ribs. Restored on the body and a small hole on the shoulder. A wonderful example of the impasto ware productions, this olla was a used a funerary vessel in the chamber tombs around the Etruscan cities of Vulci or Volsinii (Central Italy). Provenance: Private collection, London; acquired on the art market in the 1980s.
