About the Item

Baccarat (French, founded 1764), circa mid to late 19th century. This pair of magnificent and highly unusual glass and bronze ormolu trumpet vases are almost certainly created by the renowned French firm Baccarat. Baccarat’s history goes back to 1764 when by the Royal Decree of King Louis XV influenced the firm to be established. Since then, it has continuously crafted pieces for an elite clientele, whilst also winning many awards at numerous international exhibitions. The pair feature large rich ruby red glass epergne style trumpet vases which have hand cut paneling and petal rims. Each mounted to flawless heavy hand crafted bronze bases depicting acanthus leaf sleeves, beadwork, paneling, florette mounts, greek key motifs and resting on three hairy hoof feet. Measuring 20" h and 7.5" w - these would make incredible statement pieces on a dining table or flanking a stunning entryway on pedestals. Provenance: Purchased from the collection and previously displayed at the noted Rhode Island estate "Ivy Tower" designed by architect J.D. Johnston.

This pair made at the Imperial Glass Workshop, under the Sponsorship of the Imperial Family would have been at home in a Paris drawing room as easily as in St. Petersburg. The Intense Ruby Red color of the Crystal is created by adding large quantities of gold to the molten glass before the object is created. The resulting color is dense yet full of light just like its namesake the precious jewel. The Dore bronze mounts use motifs taken from antiquity. Located in Stockholm, SE
A highly decorative and unusual large ruby red vase with a gilt and silvered bronze stand. The gilt and silvered bronze base with three sturgeons. Possibly of Russian origin and made in the late 19th century. The cut glass vase lifts off the bronze base. It holds water and is in perfect condition. Sturgeon is one of the oldest bone fishes still in existence and the oldest fossils found date back the Early Jurassic period, some 174 to 201 million years ago. There are 28 different type of sturgeon species. Sturgeons are native to subtropical, temperate and sub-Arctic rivers, lakes and coastlines of Eurasia and North America. Sturgeons are long-lived and can get very large, the largest sturgeon on record was a beluga female captured in the Volga Delta in 1827, measuring 7.2 m (23 ft 7 in). Several species of sturgeon are harvested for their roe, which is processed into the luxury food caviar like the beluga caviar. Beluga caviar is caviar consisting of the roe...
