Extra Large Japanese Cloisonne Enamel Pink Vase Gonda

About the Item

An extra large antique, late Meiji era, Japanese copper and enamel vase by Gonda Hirosuke, Japanese, 1865 to 1937. A sphere shaped body is covered with enamel in a pink shade and adorned with four convex medallions depicting a scene with a Geisha in a garden, a mythical creature spirit with a female body and wings holding a lotus flower in her arms, and dragons, the neck and the base are decorated with floral and foliage motifs, made in the Cloisonne technique. Marked with an impressed mark on the bottom. Circa: early 20th century. Gonda Hirosuke was a famous Japanese enamel artist.
