Japanese Cloisonne Enamel Vase Pair Meiji Period
About the Item
A sensational pair of Japanese Meiji period Cloisonne enamel bottle vases. The vases of slender hexagonal form with trumpet opening upon a circular foot. Decorated to the highest quality with tapered scenes depicting kacho-ga (flowers and birds) including cherry, lilies, chrysanthemums, daffodils and wisteria, worked in silver and gilt wire of varying gauge. The neck, shoulder and foot with intricate geometric patterns of vibrant colour with bright blue boarders bearing scrolling motifs to the top of each scene. The top and bottom rims with silvered surfaces starting to wear though. A stunning pair of Japanese craftsmanship from the golden era well suited to any Japanese collection whether it be cloisonne specific or Japanese as a group and an excellent decorative pair for visual appeal.
Notes Cloisonne is a technique of decorating metalwork objects with coloured material separated by wire often made from precious metals. In the first instance the decoration is formed by creating a stencil on the metal object by affixing wires to the surface which will be visible once the product is finished allowing the artisan to craft beautiful scenes such as blossoming flowers or mythical animals by filling in the spaces with various colours.
