A very cool figural Brutalist stoneware pottery vase in the style of Pablo Picasso, circa 1970s. It is the bust of a man and has an abstract Picasso influenced look to it. Very cool and different piece. It is in very good condition with no chips or cracks and measures 5.5"W x 5.5"D x 11"H. #4681RM Face jugs/vases have a rich history, with examples found in ancient Greek, Pre-Columbian American, and early European pottery. In America, particularly in the Southern United States, face jugs/vases became prominently in the 19th century, with significant examples created by enslaved African Americans in places like Edgefield, South Carolina. These pieces are often characterized by their distinctive features, including applied eyes, noses, and mouths.
