A unique gilt bronze swan vase by Jean-Baptiste Sloodts. Artist: Jean-Baptiste Sloodts (b.1843, Belgian) Date: late 19th century Medium: Gilt bronze Signature: Signed to body JB'te Sloodts; Inscribed Cie des Bronzes / Bruxelles / fonte a cire perdue / oeuvre unique Compagnie des Bronzes, Brussels Dimensions: 30-1/2 x 14-1/2 inches Notes: A unique work of art made in through the lost wax process at Belgium's largest and most successful foundry, the Compagnie des Bronzes in Brussels. Modeled with a swan with outstretched wings among bulrushes. The wax model from which this one-of-a-kind piece was cast was painstakingly carved by Jean-Baptiste Sloodts, the technical director of the company.
