Pair of Medici Vases in White Opaline by Jean-Baptiste Desvignes

About the Item

Early 19th century pair of Medici vases in bulle de savon (soap bubble) opaline. The bodies are decorated with two medallions depicting two bouquets of flowers. Golden stripes, branches and floral motifs, gold and a blue wreath of anemones and forget-me-nots decorate the neck and the rim of the paunch. This decoration was done by the Jean-Baptiste Desvignes (1786-1826) studio, famous for its techniques in painting opaline crystal and glass with gold and silver leaf. They used colors from vegetable origins, which were limited to dark blue and red. Pieces from his studio are characterized by shades of dark blue and red matte, with a penchant for golden surfaces dominated with motifs of palmettes, flowers, and garlands, circa 1820 Dimension: W 4.9 in x D 4.9in x H 7.5in. Dimension: L 12.5 cm x P 12.5 cm x H 19 cm.
