About the Item

Floro vase by Lilia Cruz Corona Garduño Dimensions: W 18 x D 18 x H 31 cm Materials: High-temperature ceramics (Stoneware) and vitrified glaze Platalea studio was born out of a passion for both art and design. We love how both are so intrinsically intertwined in ways that are often too subtle to surmise in our everyday routines. Our goal is to provide a voice for those who are often marginalized or hidden in the shadows. We do this by representing our ideologies through our designs, the materials we pick and the people we choose to build them. At Platalea, we have composed and exhibited varied collections that range from unique exhibition pieces to dinnerware, rugs, benches, stools and light fixtures. Each piece belongs to a collection that was carefully fleshed out by our artists and designers to give them a fascinating story brimming with history and intent. Lilia has always had a penchant for making her ideas leap off the page and become physical objects that convey her artistic vision mixed with social intent. She prefers to work with materials and techniques that allow her to create three-dimensional objects that have fun and often unusual shapes that bring a smile and a sense of joy. Lilia’s expertise lies in understanding social and political issues and conveying them through her art and designs. Lilia needs to immerse herself by a topic and build a relationship with the wealth of materials and methods available to her, only then will she start crafting the soul of the piece. Lilia believes in her art being enjoyed, being tactile, not stationary. Her art is meant to synergize with its environment, it is intended to take on a life of its own after it leaves her workshop. The soul which she has imbued into her art will forever linger, but her pieces are always evolving. Rodrigo has always had a passion for working with local artisans from remote regions all over Mexico. He specializes in learning local techniques from artisans to bring his designs to life, all while retaining the tradition and soul of old techniques but with the polish and style of modern design. As the founder of Platalea, Lilia serves as our artistic director. Lilia ensures that the vision and soul of all of our work convey the same message of inclusion and joy in everyday objects. Rodrigo is a master of materials and processes, and as such, he not only designs but is in charge of production here at Platalea.

L Vase Designed by Virginia Frieyro for The Table Project, Spain, 2024
Located in Madrid, ES
This unique piece is part of The Table Project, a collaborative initiative developed in Spain in 2024. Originally designed by Isidro Blasco, the work has been reinterpreted by Virginia Frieyro, a visual artist whose practice lies at the intersection of expanded painting, installation, and spatial intervention. Her work stems from a formal investigation of color and gesture, often connected to architecture and bodily movement. In this intervention, Frieyro transforms the surface of the vase into an immersive pictorial support, applying glazes, stains, and chromatic gestures in a vibrant palette of pinks, blues, greens, and purples. The rhythmic and gestural composition resembles an abstract cartography, where color is layered and interwoven to create a sense of depth and motion. The result is a piece that transcends functionality, existing somewhere between sculpture and three-dimensional painting. About Virginia Frieyro Virginia Frieyro explores abstraction, color, and repetition, weaving vibrant compositions across surfaces. In her ceramic works, color becomes a kind of fabric or structure, inviting an emotional experience. She seeks to connect with the most intimate and sensitive aspects of perception—believing that it is in that precise moment where art truly happens. About The Table Project The Table Project is an initiative by artist Isidro Blasco. From his studio in the Carabanchel neighborhood of Madrid, a series of projects have been developed with the goal of creating distinctive artistic objects and fostering collaboration among local artists. Since 2019, The Table Project has promoted creative encounters grounded in Spain’s rich artisanal traditions, reimagined through a contemporary lens. The initiative has become a space where multidisciplinary artists come together to produce handcrafted works within the context of contemporary art. Launched by Blasco...
