About the Item

This French Art Nouveau pink opaline glass vase, hand-blown and decorated circa 1896, exemplifies the era’s love of organic forms and intricate craftsmanship. Of baluster form, the vase features a hand-painted floral scene of blooming poppies in vibrant pink enamel, their delicate petals outlined in thick gold enamel for added dimension. The bold fuchsia pink is strikingly contrasted by luminous cyan blue, which is used to depict the foliage and accent the lip and base. A decorative cyan band encircles the piece, adorned with a row of black floral motifs, adding a strong graphic quality to the design. A fine example of late 19th-century French glasswork, this Art Nouveau vase stands 35 cm tall with a diameter of 18 cm. Now over 125 years old, it has a small chip on the outer lip but remains in very good condition for its age and use. Though rooted in the romantic aesthetics of the Art Nouveau period, its bold colour contrasts and striking composition also resonate with Postmodern sensibilities, making it a distinctive accent in both historical and contemporary interiors
