About the Item

Gargalos is a collection of blown glass vases, designed by Brazillian designers Brunno Jahara and Patricia Bagniewski, made for Vicara. Gargalos was born from the meeting between Rio de Janeiro's designer and Brasilia's artist, who initially got together to think of a new way to reuse wine bottles, so that they could be transformed into a new product - without entering an industrial recycling process. The name, 'Gargalos' means bottlenecks in portuguese, because the main goal was to find something that would play with and benefit from their original shape. This first project, which sought to transform used wine bottles, was produced in Brasilia, where the two met, and aimed to enhance the common object by giving it a new purpose and meaning. After learning about this project, Paulo Sellmayer, VICARA's creative director, invited Brunno Jahara and Patricia Bagniewski to emancipate themselves from the original idea - closely linked to the reusing process - and adapt the design to be produced from scratch at one of the Glass Factories of Marinha Grande, in Leiria, in Portugal. From this invitation then emerges Gargalos, a set of vases made in true colored glass. Each vase serves not only as a vase for plants, but it is also possible to take advantage of the characteristic shape of the bottleneck to carry out seed germination processes. VICARA Studio is a creative agency that develops original initiatives and socially conscious solutions in the area of product design. Bringing together designers, artisans and industry, VICARA takes a hands-on approach in creating a sustainable and interconnected design ecosystem. The agency is also the owner of two product design brands: the homonymous brand, which presents a catalog of exclusive pieces produced in ceramics, glass, wood, or weaving techniques, and which has portuguese design and production as its common thread; and Tasco, a red clay tableware brand, inspired by the vernacular of Portuguese handmade ceramics and its gastronomic culture.
