About the Item

These are a rare pair of ironstone vase with high loop handles, made by the Mason's factory, England in the early 19th century, circa 1815 to 1820. These footed vases are potted in a rare shape with two elaborately moulded side handles, giving a very decorative profile. An identically shaped vase is illustrated in Gaye Blake Roberts book; Mason's The First Two Hundred Years, Page 77. The vases are decorated with a gold gilded pattern against a mazarine blue ground with gold side handles, this pattern being illustrated on various pieces in the above book pages 98 and 99. The vases are unmarked, as many pieces are, but they are definitely by Mason's and similar vases appear in Geoffrey Godden's definitive work on Masons China and the Ironstone Wares, pages 210. These fine, rare, early Mason's pieces date to 1815 to 1820.
