Glass And Wrought Iron Vase By Daum And Majorelle
About the Item
This exquisite glass and wrought iron vase is the result of one of the most iconic Art Deco artistic collaborations between Daum Nancy and Louis Majorelle. Each renowned for their unrivaled craftsmanship and unique design aesthetics, Daum and Majorelle worked together to create beautiful nature-inspired vessels like this one that are eagerly sought by collectors all over the world.
This hand-crafted vase is a prime example of the intricate detail and superb quality for which these firms are both known. The rich ocean-blue Daum glass is dappled with sky blue, fiery orange and brilliant gilt inclusions that give the surface extraordinary depth. Blown into Majorelle’s wrought iron casing that is embellished with floral motifs, the vase takes on a fluid, organic shape that was quintessential to Art Nouveau elegance. Like Gallé, Daum was heavily influenced by nature which led to the production of many floral and scenic works.
The famed collaboration between Daum Nancy and Louis Majorelle is legendary in 19th-century design history. Daum Nancy glass is among the best and most famous French cameo glass of the Art Nouveau period, known for their mastery of the coveted pâte de verre method initially produced by Auguste and Antonin Daum around 1890. The firm soon developed new techniques, such as the incorporation of metal armatures, and frequently tapped leading designers like Louis Majorelle to incorporate their designs. Majorelle was a celebrated French decorator and furniture designer, and their collaboration became widely popular when a series of lamps they created with the Daum brothers was exhibited at the 1900 Paris World’s Fair.
