About the Item

Vases by Carl-Harry Stålhane produced while he worked with Rörstrand. These are part of his Atelje series of works. All three with incensed with the three crowns -R mark of Rorstrand and also signed Atelje CHS Sweden, circa 1955 A Bit about Carl-Harry Stålhane- Carl-Harry Ingemar Stålhane, born in Mariestad, Sweden on December 15, 1920, educated at Isac Grünewald's Painting School 1943-1946, then at Academie Collarossi in Paris during the period 1947-1948. He came to Rörstrand in 1939, only 19 years old and became one of the leading artists at the factory. At age 30 he became something of a master at Stengods and took over as a leading artist after Gunnar Nylund. Stahlhane made all kinds of goods, from unique that he hand-signed himself, to the studio goods for which he became best known. He also designed countless tableware and drew lots of decor. Stålhane became loyal to Rörstrand for more than 30 years, the last two years also as design manager at Upsala Ekeby. He also worked as a teacher at the School of Art and Design in Gothenburg in 1963-1971. In 1973 he quit at Rörstrand and started his own company - Designhuset in Lidköping. Stahlhane has done several public works, including a Stoneware Relief for Commerce Trust Co in Kansas City USA and Volvo in Gothenburg. His art is represented at the National Museum in Stockholm, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and others. He dies in Lidköping on April 11, 1990. The objects were signed "CHS", the unique ones with the full name "CH Stålhane".
