Holographic, UV printed Geometric vase

About the Item

"Geo Vase" is a one-of-a-kind piece as part of Roxana Azar's recent collection, "Futures Passed". This piece is handcrafted by the artist in the United States with acrylic and UV printed floral design. This piece measures 12”h x 7”w x 3”d and is only suitable for dried flowers. Please note: The dried flowers pictured are just for display and not shipped with the piece. The foundation of Azar’s multidisciplinary process begins with photography and its reconstruction through collage and digital manipulation. From abstract photo collages, Azar creates photo sculptures, built of printed layers of translucent, transparent, and iridescent materials. The synthesis of image, material, and in some works, text, is activated by the interplay between the work and its environment. Each encounter with Azar’s work is an ephemeral experience orchestrated by the specific conditions of the moment, mirroring the transient phenomenology of our dreams and the subconscious. About Roxana Azar Roxana Azar is a Philadelphia-based artist whose light art and dichroic sculpture work utilizes photography, digital manipulation, and sculpture to create biomorphic objects and speculative artifacts influenced by science fiction, Persian miniatures, and the Memphis Group. Their new work includes holographic vases, furniture, and lucite florals with images of collaged greenhouses and gardens. By using vibrant and holographic NASA-engineered materials, a dynamic visual experience of both the image and object is created where there are color-shifting shadows, transparency, and reflections all at once.

"Cairn Vase (small)", is a one-of-a-kind piece as part of Yoonmi Nam's recent collection. This piece is handcrafted by the artist in the United States with porcelain and hand-painted with clear glaze. This piece measures 6.75”h x 4.5”w x 4.75”d. Yoonmi Nam’s work considers cross-cultural experience and sense of transience through observations of everyday objects and occurrences. In her prints, drawings, sculptural works, and installations, she uses familiar disposable objects and cut flower arrangements as subject matter and explores their materiality, ephemerality, persistence, and the common and extraordinary way we structure our surroundings. Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, Yoonmi received a B.F.A. degree in Printmaking from Hong-Ik University in Seoul, Korea. She moved to the U.S. to study at the Rhode Island School of Design, where she received an M.F.A. degree in Painting/Printmaking in 2000. Currently, she teaches at the University of Kansas, where she has been a faculty member since 2001. "I am drawn to man-made spaces and objects that we surround ourselves with, especially when they subtly suggest a contradicting sense of time that seems both temporary and lasting. In the arranged flower imagery, the flowers, once cut from their roots, have only a short remaining time to live. They will quickly wither and die, but before they do, they are elegantly and elaborately arranged, as if time will stand still for them. The containers that hold them are disposable objects, such as a yogurt cup, a Styrofoam take-out box, and an instant noodle bowl...
