About the Item

Striking hand-hammered copper floor vase with an elegant twisted design, made in Italy and stamped Made in Italy. Likely designed by Egidio Casagrande (1911–1962), renowned for his refined metalwork. The rich, warm surface has developed a beautiful patina over time, complemented by minor dents that add to its authentic vintage character. A statement piece that blends perfectly into both classic and contemporary interiors. Dimensions: Height 50 cm (19.7”), Diameter 32 cm (12.6”). He worked in brass and copper.  He was born in Borgo Valsugana, Italy, in the northern province of Trento (August 28, 1911), and died there (June 11, 1962).  At thirteen he was apprenticed in the workshop of Luigi Taddei, specializing in the production of iron and copper.  In 1937 he moved to Milan where he opened a workshop for the production of copper objects, but after a few years returned to his village.  His company grew and at one point he had about a hundred workers and apprentices. He made sculptures for public places. He worked with Hollywood films such as Ben Hur, The Ten Commandments, and The Fall of the Roman Empire, that were filmed in Italy.
