Japanese Antique Tsukubai 1860s-1900s / Stone Vase Basin Wabi Sabi

About the Item

This is an old tsukubai (stone) made in Japan. This item was made during the Meiji period (1860s-1900s), and its natural texture over the years is attractive. Tsukubai is a stone water pot used in the tea ceremony to cleanse the hands and mouth before entering the tea room. Because of its low position, the act of bending down to use the water is said to naturally produce a spirit of humility. The stone skin of this tsukubai has acquired depth and austerity over time, giving it a unique appearance. It is also worth mentioning that it is in very good condition with no noticeable damage or cracks. While standing quietly, it is a presence that brings a deep sense of taste and the spirit of wabi-sabi to a space. It is a gem that looks beautiful not only in outdoor gardens but also as an indoor objet d'art. Weight: approx. 40 kg _______________________________________________ Our Philosophy Objects always tell the truth. All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give them deep affection as much as I can. There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty. But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing today and to question us about an essence of beauty again. I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have, feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
