Japanese Bronze Vase, Meiji Period

About the Item

A unique Japanese vase, hand-crafted in bronze. Meiji Period, circa 1890. Decorated with embossed cranes and a gilt sun symbol. At the bottom, the vase is nested in an exquisitely carved base with three turtles, which according to traditional Japanese beliefs, symbolize longevity, good luck and support. It is the symbol of Kompira, the god of seafaring people. The vase has a circular detachable top, which includes an inner base in wood and marble with metal pins, to secure and hold floral arrangements. The vase itself can be used with or without the top for any purpose: decoration or flower arrangements. The detachable top adds versatility to the piece. It also has a signature at the bottom. Includes the two-piece vase, a period wood box and a marble, metal and wood inner base for flower arrangements.
