Japanese Meiji Jiki-Shippo “Tree-Bark” Cloisonné Porcelain Vase, Early 1900s

About the Item

A very charming and warm, vibrantly colored Japanese Meiji period jiki-shippo “tree-bark” cloisonné porcelain vase. Subtly tapered rectangular form with each side displaying a delightful floral and butterfly vignette on roughly textured lacquered brown ground convincingly imitating tree bark. Black lacquered body with a variety of tiny, meticulously crafted traditional Japanese motifs that are uniformly dispersed between similarly themed and executed solid borders around shoulder and base. Overall dimensions are listed below. Mouth is W 1.5 in. x D 1.5 in. and foot is W 3.75 in. x D 3.75 in.

    Wear consistent with age and use. In great antique condition. Colors bright and saturated. Black dark and smooth. Bark texture bronze-like and uniform. Interior bright white with minimal signs of use. Bottom with very light shelf wear. A few tiny fleabites and inconsequential marks.
