Outstanding tall contemporary Japanese decorative porcelain vase, extremely intricately hand painted in blue and red on gracefully shaped massive Arita porcelain body, a signed masterpiece by highly acclaimed award-winning master porcelain artist in the overglaze enameling tradition of the Imari-Arita region of southern Japan. This stunning vase uses the finest Arita porcelain to showcase the artist`s mastery in both underglaze and overglaze enameling by creating a canvas for traditional underglaze Imari patterns in shades of blue combined with tangled ribbons of plum blossoms hanging tenuously from the rim and swaying in the wind. The plum blossoms, set against a white background, accentuate a recurring castle motif. The understated blue underglaze portion featuring auspicious scrolling leaves and occasional lotus flowers highlight the artist’s mastery of overglaze enameling, and returns to the blue underglaze roots of the Imari-Arita tradition described by the artist as the most unforgiving and often most demanding form of hand painted porcelain artistry. The elegant rim and the base of the vase are decorated with recurring patterns in a darker tone of blue. The exquisite shape and the unusual patterns of the vase make this a truly exceptional piece.
