French artist Jean Luce created this stunning acid-etched crystal-glass vase circa 1930 in France, showcasing his exquisite artistry.
The vase is signed on the underside with designer Jean Luce's iconic monogram, confirming its authenticity. This rare piece exemplifies the innovative design of the 1930s.
Dimensions: 4.94 in diameter (12.5 cm) by 8.25 in high (21 cm).
Note: Jean Luce (1895 – 1964) was a ceramicist and glassware designer born in Paris.
Luce was a visionary who transformed tableware design. He refined his skills in his father's ceramics shop before launching his own in 1923, assuming full control in 1931. From then on, he set new standards in ceramics and glass, mastering both form and decoration with precision. His hand-painted and stencil-applied motifs weren't just decorative—they were statements of elegance, seamlessly blending the naturalistic Art Moderne style with opulent gold accents.
He didn't just follow trends—he created them. His early works introduced clear enamel decoration, and by 1924, he pioneered sandblasting techniques that redefined surface design. In 1935, his porcelain and glass graced the prestigious ocean liner Normandie, a look so refined that the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique adopted it across their fleet. His expertise also shaped the glassware of Cristal de Saint-Louis in the early 1930s and revolutionized stainless-steel flatware for Sola France by the late 1950s.
Beyond his artistry, Luce shaped the future of modern design. He joined the Union des Artistes Modernes (UAM) in 1937, mentored rising talents at the École des Arts Appliqués in Paris, and provided invaluable guidance as a technical advisor at the legendary Manufacture de Sèvres. His influence wasn't just lasting—it was transformative. Luce didn't merely design tableware; he elevated it to an art form, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire.

Mid-Century Willy Johansson Art Glass Vase for Hadeland Norway
By Hadeland, Willy Johansson
Located in Atlanta, GA
This beautiful art glass vase was designed by Willy Johansson (1921 - 1993) for Hadeland Glassverk, Norway. It is smooth to the touch, but the appearance looks heavily textured with ribs and bubbles trapped in glass. From the Atlantic series, this vase has a cylindrical fluted shape in heavy lead crystal clear glass with deep ribbed sides and internal bubbles in the lower half of the vase. Finely flat ground and highly polished top with an overhang style lip, this art-glass has a nice modernist flair. The vase is signed on the underside and reads Hadeland - WJ.
Measurements: 4.75 in diameter (12 cm) x 10 in high (25.5 cm).
Note: Willy Johansson was a (1921- 1993) Norwegian glassware designer. Between 1939-42, he studied Statens Handvaerks -og Kunstindustriskole Oslo. His father was at the Hadelands Glassverk, Jevnaker, where Johansson joined the glassmaking workshop in 1936. He was best known for the white rim on his clear or smoked glassware...
