About the Item
An unusual and individual Leach Pottery, St Ives hand thrown studio pottery vase decorated in mottled glazes by renowned Cornish based potter Joanna Wason (German, b.1952) and dating from around 2000.
Joanna graduated from Exeter College of Art and Liverpool Art School in the 1970’s and joined the Leach pottery in 1990’s assisting Janet Leach. She continued there until the temporary closure of the pottery in 2006.
The heavily potted stoneware vase sits on a flat narrow round base and is of round bulbous shape with a short funnel neck and trumpet shape top. The body of the vase is decorated in a mixture of textured glazes, some rough and some smooth in tones of brown with elements of blue applied on a white ground. The vase has impressed Leach Pottery marks applied to the bottom edge along with a personal potters mark.
Provenance: from the collection of a private gentleman and originating from the UK art market.
