Nature can stage extraordinary landscapes. The scenarios are vast, the lights are amazing, the surprises are endless. And when man and nature meet, enchantment occurs. Inspired by the vibrant and elusive movement of water, Jacopo Foggini has created his very own aesthetic revolution, a combination of aesthetics and design, with a visionary use of polycarbonate. A plastic derivate normally relegated to the industrial world, chosen by him to recount nature, in a continuous artisanal quest with which he creates evocative colored fairytales, populated by everyday objects. Chandeliers, chairs, tables and huge scenographies - one-off pieces of spectacular lightness - which today find their place in museums, public and private spaces everywhere in the world, in a constant elaboration which now unveils the new J. Jungle chapter. A sophisticated collection of vases of apparent simplicity created in two sizes and an infinite array of chromatic nuances, each one being a unique piece: the novelty of this project being its reduced scale, however characterized by a substantial heftiness. If the object is out of scale, it will be it’s weight that will determine its preciousness. The luscious J.Jungle vases, translate the exuberance of tropical forests into urban and daily shapes. A splendid ensemble which replicates the hypnotic glistening of snake scales, of sinuous invertebrates, blinding flowers and tangled leaves and lianas. Nature undergoes the red of a flight, in which a butterfly could have a weight of its own, whilst Jacopo captures it transforming it into design. Burly vases, with the imposing presence of sculptures, that light up as vivid meteorites, as an incessant homage to the phantasmagorical nature which finds its sap in animals, its vibrations in streams, its stability in stones, all permeated by beauty. Shades inspired by minerals, insects, tree barks, flowers and birds laid out either monochromatically or two-toned, genuinely brightened by their very own unpredictable inner life. Air bubbles created with a secret technique, with self-multiplying hues that twirl like the tropical lights of that restless world crystallized by J.Jungle. During the incandescent enigma of its elaboration, via rapid and expert hand actions, Jacopo entrusts a special mystery to each piece, via his philosophy which is in perfect harmony with the perennial mobility which here is bequeathed via the fantasy language of eternal moment written in synthetic glass, in sincere modernity. While working for the family business, Jacopo Foggini discovered the versatile nature of methacrylate, a material generally used in the production of car reflectors. Enchanted by the aesthetical and chromatic qualities of this thermoplastic resin, similar to glass yet tremendously light, Foggini started experimenting its use since the late 1990s. With a machine of his own invention, Foggini melted methacrylate, and later polycarbonate, at 200°C transforming it into a filament that he then moulds with his hands creating luminous shapes and monumental artworks: labyrinths of colored light, blurring the boundaries between art and design. “The speed of execution is almost the same as that for the glass, however with my materials I can mould monumental artworks that are extremely lightweighted”. Jacopo Foggini was born in Turin and currently lives and works in Milan. He explores art and design crossing the boundaries imposed by the conventions of those disciplines. Jacopo joins really early the family business where he discovers the versatility of the methacrylate, an Industrial material normally used in automotive design. His first experimentation with this material date back to the beginning of the nineties, when he starts using a machine of his own invention that heats the methacrylate up to 200 degrees Celsius, producing a filament that he models with his hands to create luminous shapes, monumental works and mazes of threads in an elegant intertwining of colors.

Jacopo Foggini

Italian designer Jacopo Foggini creates playful modern furniture — he uses industrial materials in novel and exciting ways that frequently break with the constraints of conventional design. His chandeliers, vases and sculptural pieces have an ethereal quality, and each new work merges art and functionalism in rich and interesting ways.

Foggini was born in Turin in 1966. As a young man in the 1990s, he joined the family business in the industrial sector. Ever inventive, he modified a piece of machinery to heat a polymer called methacrylate and make a filament that could be molded with his hands. Foggini used the filament to produce large installations of the colorful spiraling material.

In 1997, Foggini held his first exhibition in the Milan boutique of friend and fashion designer Romeo Gigli. His next major career highlight came in 2006 when he was asked to design the Lampadario da Teatro for the Turin Winter Olympic Games. The chandelier illuminated the stage during a performance by opera singer Luciano Pavarotti. In 2011, he also designed a six-meter diameter matryoshka doll for Moscow Design Week.

One of the most important relationships over the course of Foggini's career has been with furniture manufacturer Edra. Foggini and Edra routinely collaborate on striking tables and chairs, among them the sinuous Capriccio table and the sculptural swivel Ester chair.
